HEMINGWAY, ERNEST. Typed Letter dated and Signed, to "Dear Mr. Knoxton," sending a check, asking for a bill for any overtime, explaining that Otto Bruce will likely pick up the boys instead of himself because he does not want to be distracted until his book is finished [For Whom the Bell Tolls]. Pencil notes in an unknown hand at bottom, naming a ranch and its location, Cook City, MT, dating the pickup of the boys by Otto Bruce, and recording the date and amount of a bill. 1/2 page, 4to; folds. Key West, 23 Aug[ust] 1939

  • Notes: ". . . You can bill me for whatever overtime the boys have.
    "I would love to come and pick them up myself and have a chance to stay with you but it work out better this year for Otto Bruce to come. . . . I can't conscientiously go through N.Y. now without attending to a lot of accumulate business. And am trying not to think of anything else until get [sic] this book finished. . . ."
