- Notes: Letter to Hotchner discusses film treatment of Hemingway''s short story Fifty Grand. "Al Rice called Papa tonight and they talked about the Fifty Grand deal. Al was protesting that he could get more than the $14,000 you mentioned to Papa . . . and tonight Papa told him that if he could not get more then he should accept the $14,000 and let it lie . . .such things can get mixed up in transmission (you wanna hold a debate on that point?)." With typed envelope * letter to Lyons discusses tomato farming, fishing trip with Papa: "Papa and I alone with two boatmen took a ten-day fishing trip which was absolutely heaven-wonderful fishing, no telephone or mail, complete silence and stars at night, and cool enough for me to sleep in my skiing underwear . . ."
