Etching on Etruria Italy laid paper. 190x225 mm; 7 3/8x8 7/8 inches, full margins. Signed and inscribed "Trial Proof #3" in pencil, lower right.

De Kruif was a noted California printmaker, who moved to Los Angeles in 1911 from Michigan and studied with Stanton MacDonald Wright. He was a member of the Group of Eight, which included artists Mabel Alvarez, Clarence Hinkle, John Hubbard Rich, Donna Schuster, E. Roscoe Shrader, Edouard Vysekal, and Luvena Buchanan Vyseka. The Eight exhibited at the Los Angeles Museum in 1927. Other affiliations of de Krief include the California Art Club, the California Print Makers, the California Society of Etchers, the Chicago Society of Etchers, the Laguna Beach Art Association, and the Los Angeles Art Association. His work is represented in the collections of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; the Five Colleges and Historic Deerfield Museum Consortium, Massachusetts; the Library of Congress; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Los Angeles Public Library; the San Diego Museum of Art; and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

  • Condition: Appears to be in overall good condition, aside from uneven toning in the margins.

    Strips of paper adhered to each sheet corner from previous cornering. Sheet is taped to back mat at two points along top edge.
