HENRY DETOUCHE (1854-1913) 22 EXPOSITION DES CENT. 1896.
24 1/2x16 inches. Chaix, Paris.
Condition A-: repaired tear in right margin. Matted and Framed.
This is the only poster designed by Detouche, whose renown was as an engraver and watercolorist. Advertising the 22nd exhibition of the Salon des Cent at La Plume, he chooses a hieroglyphic-like profile of a woman whose hands are twisted into a shape evocative of the swans on the wallpaper behind her. The strange conceit is one of the least predictable of the Salon des Cent series. Salon des Cent p. 52, DFP-II. 303, Gold 189.
