HENRY RALEIGH.
"A scraggly baking chicken of many summers" * "Tom glared uneasily at the sight that met his eye." Together, two early illustrations, circa 1915-1925. Charcoal, pen, and ink on board. "Chicken" measures 279x305 mm; 11x12 inches, on 20x15 3/4-inch board. "Tom" measures 267x381 mm; 10 1/2x15 inches. Both signed "Raleigh" in lower left image. Both boards show some wear. Provenance: From the private collection of Charles Martignette to present owner in 2002.
