In the beginning of 1934, Henry Bannarn along with friend and fellow artist, Charles Alston, founded the Alston-Bannarn Workshop in Harlem. The workshop, commonly refered to as the "306" because of its address at 306 W. 141st Street, would become one of the main workshops where young artists in Harlem could take classes and receive guidance, in addition to Augusta Savage's studios and the Harlem Art Workshop. Bannarn's pupils at the Alston-Bannarn workshop included Jacob Lawrence and Bob Blackburn.Hills 21.
