HERBERT ANDREW PAUS TO MAKE THE WORLD A DECENT PLACE TO LIVE IN / THIRD LIBERTY LOAN

President Wilson refered to World War One as the war "to make the world safe for Democracy." Here Paus, an illustrator and painter who created several memorable World War One posters, changes the expression slightly, simplifying it and making it more pertinent to the common man. The image is a bold, stirring depiction of U. S. troops "going over the top" of their trench into a fiery battle, their pride, determination and flag all on display. Rawls p. 212-213,, Theofiles 147, Borkan p. 95.
