Bayer (1900-1985) was born in Austria and trained and taught at the Bauhaus in Weimar during the 1920s. He left Germany in the mid-1930s, arriving in New York in 1938. In 1946, Bayer and his wife relocated to Aspen, Colorado, where he was instrumental in that town's post-war development. Hahn/Wingler 39-45.
