  • Notes: The first of only two issues produced. It features an introductory letter signed by Joe Louis in facsimile, and illustrated stories on George Washington Carver, World War Two heroes, Paul Robeson, Mary McLeod Bethune, and Matthew Henson, as well as a text centerfold with sections on Harriet Tubman, Joe Louis, Dorie Miller, and Marian Anderson. The advisory committee included Oliver Harrington, E. Simms Campbell, Col. Benjamin Davis Jr., Danny Kaye, and Canada Lee.
