Notes: The Olivier material includes a 16 March 1959 letter discussing a movie he is working on, "The rumors about this film I know have been roaving about like flying wombats" [though missing the second page of the letter]; a 13 July 1956 telegram inviting her to a Marilyn Monroe press conference; an undated letter writing "I knew Jack [Merivale?] during G.W.T.W. slightly & he weekly lent us his yacht on the Hudson during R. & J."; a 1 February 1958 typed letter offering her seats to opening night "if you promise not to yawn too many times, having seen it so much"; a 25 January 1965 typed letter about The Crucible, writing "It went splendidly on Tuesday thank God, and now I can give proper attention to the rest of our programme"; a 26 February 1952 typed letter discussing their busy schedule and thanking her for "the beautiful puff in the L. A. Times."; and more.
The Leigh material includes a 26 January 1965 typed letter about the opening night of My Fair Lady, "I went with Rex to the opening of My Fair Lady in which I thought he was transcendently good"; an autograph letter written from San Francisco praising the audiences there and discussing a planned trip to Europe, "I shall go to France by Sea, spend a week in Paris getting clothes for the film and drive down to Rome"; a lengthy 30 October autograph letter apologizing for missing her birthday, explaining "I was still under extraordinary medical care & knew little of what was happening... I wonder if Messers Harris & Farkman [?] know how nearly they killed me"; a 22 November autograph letter discussing the casting of an upcoming film, "I think Paolo will be played by a young Italian... but Radie darling cannot tell you definitely as really this film's a chaotic production so far"; a 3 May autograph letter mentioning a visit by Noel Coward, "one worries for him all the time about Lornie [?], oh dear it is so tragic & dreadful, I expect you know all about this darling but please keep it privately to yourself"; a 7 April autograph letter inquiring "What did you think of the Deputy? I expect you will have seen Hamlet by the time this reaches you"; a 6 November 1965 autograph letter writing "as for the Severed Head there seems to be some doubt as to whether it will be made. In any event I have not seen a script nor has anyone else as far as I know."; and many more. a superb collection, should be seen.
