[7] (of [8]), 189, [3] leaves, including colophon leaf, penultimate blank, and final leaf with Aldine device on verso; lacks blank A8. 8vo, 155x94 mm, 16th-century French olive morocco gilt with triple fillet border on covers, flat spine stamped with author's name and with the arms and device of Charles, Cardinal de Bourbon (1520-90), expert restoration to joints; contents clean; gilt edges. 19th-century bookplate of H. Lefuel. (Venice: House of Aldus and Andrea of Asola, November 1519)

  • Notes: Third Aldine edition. Following the assassination of Henry III in 1589, the Cardinal de Bourbon was proclaimed King of France by the Catholic League, but was imprisoned by the late King's nephew and died in confinement the following year.
