ARRANGING FOR BURIAL A YEAR BEFORE HIS DEATH HOUDINI, HARRY. Typed Letter Signed, to the managers of his gravesite ("Gentlemen"), advising them of his wishes concerning who would be permitted to be buried in his plots at the Machpelah Cemetary in Flushing, New York, listing himself and the names of his immediate family. Additionally signed at lower left by "witness" Julia Sauer. 1 page, 4to, personal stationery; horizontal folds through signature with some ink loss but still legible, cello tape repairs to few scattered tears and separations at folds on recto and verso affecting text, chipping at all edges and small hole middle left with minor loss to text, newspaper clipping from 1927 New York Times obituary for Houdini's brother Nathan J. Weiss mounted in margin top left. New York, 31 May 1925

  • Notes: ". . . I desire to restrict the use of the said cemetery plot for the burial at their respective deaths . . . . [m]yself, my wife, Wilhelmina Rahner Houdini, my brothers, Nathan Joseph Weiss, William Godfry Weiss, Theodore Franz Weiss known as Theodore W. Hardeen and my sister Carrie Gladys Weiss known as Gladys Houdini and I direct that no . . . other person or persons whatsoever shall be buried in the said plot without my written consent. . . ."
