Pencil on cream laid paper, prepared for transfer with red chalk verso. 95x117 mm; 3 3/4x4 3/4 inches. Partial seven provinces (?) watermark. Ex-collection C. G. Boerner, Düsseldorf, in their Neue Lagerliste 72 (1980), number 32.
This design was probably used for one of the numerous book illustrations etched after designs by Gravelot, for example the Almanach iconologique pour l'année 1765 et l'années suivantes, Paris, 1765-81, and Petity's Bibliothèque des artistes et des amateurs, Paris, 1766 (see Inventaire du Fond Français), numbers 1260 and 1507.
