New York, 1947 E500/750 The large, full-page inscription reads, "For Kurt and Lenya - who haveadded a new field of wonder to my life - Sincerely, Langston. Atlanta University, March 4, 1947." Hughes and Weill had just completed theircollaboration on the Broadway musi-cal Street Scene, an adaptation ofElmer Rice's Pulitzer Prize-winning play. During the writing stages, the two became close friends, with Hughes introducing the Harlem jazzscene to Weill. Street Scene premiered on Broadway in January 1947.
