HURSTON, ZORA NEALE. Two printed articles, each in a separate issue of the Journal of American Folk-Lore. 8vo, original wrappers, few nicks at edges; small inked library stamps on wrappers. New York, 1930-31

  • Notes: The longer of the 2 articles, Hoodoo in America, is the basis for a long section in her book Of Mules and Men (1935). The second article is titled Dance Songs and Games from the Bahamas. Hurston studied anthropology under Franz Boas at Columbia University. Boas recognized and respected Hurston's talent, and as her mentor was able to open doors which might have otherwide been closed to her.
