(ILLUSTRATION.) Peters, Gustav S.; publisher. Die Geschichte Joseph's und seiner Brüder.
VERY EARLY AMERICAN COLOR PRINTING (ILLUSTRATION.) Peters, Gustav S.; publisher. Die Geschichte Joseph's und seiner Brüder. 16 colored woodcut illustrations, including one small vignette on title page. 16mo, original pictorial wrappers, worn, stitched with black thread and chipped with slight loss of text; some browning, small hole affecting woodcut on page 4, minor marginal dampstaining. Harrisburg, PA, 1835
- Notes: first edition? Peters, who worked among the German immigrant community in a small inland city, has been dubbed "America's First Color Printer"--the title of a 1998 exhibit of his work. The illustrations in this attractive example of his early work are printed in yellow, blue, and red, with the blue and yellow overlaid to make green. This work was issued in several editions, but WorldCat does not show any other copies with an imprint date as early as 1835; the AAS has the only other copy we have traced.
