- Notes: first english edition. Hunter's narrative was first published the same year in Philadelphia and republished in London several times throughout the 1820s. Although his account of his captivity among the Osages is accurate, some historians have doubted the veracity of the narrative of an overland journey to the Columbia River contained within.
