- Notes: first edition, inscribed by carroll on day of publication. One of 600 copies of the first state, without mention of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland on the title-page. One of only twenty-eight publication-day copies, presented to "The Right Honbl. G Ward Hunt, with the Author's kind regards. Jan 1869." Hunt was a colleague of Dodgson at Christ Church, Oxford, and a Conservative M.P. recently elected to the post of Chancellor of the Exchequer in Disraeli's first Cabinet (1868).
