INSCRIBED TO THE EMPEROR OF BRAZIL EMANUEL, HARRY. Diamonds and Precious Stones. Beautiful color steel engraved frontispiece, 4 tinted plates, 2 chromolithographed plates, 28 text illustrations. 4to, blindstamped calf "à l'antique" over wood by T. Aitken, bevelled edges, spine with raised bands and gilt title label, red polished edges, some scuffing and natural discoloration. London: John Camden Hotten, 1865
- Notes: extremely rare first large-paper edition; inscribed presentation copy to the emperor of brazil on front blank. Much esteemed in its day, Sinkankas considered it a "highly interesting and eminently readable account of gemstones meant for the general reader." He also explains that the few existing large-paper copies available for his examination were all poorly bound, with sections loose or falling out. This is a handsome, well bound copy and is additionally inscribed, making it a true rarity on two counts. Sinkankas 1886.
