- Notes: first edition. inscribed and signed by warren with his nickname "Red" to his friend Fred Crofts, in the year of publication. Crofts was a publisher who first met Warren when he successfully took over production and promotion of the author's early textbook "Understanding Poetry" in the early 1940s. Its popularity encouraged a reprint in 1959 under the new publishing imprint of Appleton-Century-Crofts. Ex-library Crofts, but without any identifying marks.
