J. JAY MCVICKER Night Shift II (Blue)

J. JAY MCVICKER
Night Shift II (Blue)

Color aquatint, 1943-89. 252x400 mm; 10x15 3/4 inches, full margins. Signed, dated, titled, and numbered 2/25 in pencil, lower margin. A very good impression.

McVicker (1911-2004) was born in Oklahoma and studied at Oklahoma State University, where from the 1950s through the 1970s he was a professor of fine art. During the 1930s/40s, McVickers worked in a representational style, and many of his subjects were drawn from Oklahoma landscapes and industry. However, by the mid-1950s he had shifted to a more abstract style and incorporated a brighter, more colorful palette in his work.
