The Panama Pacific Line began operation in 1915, sailing between the East Coast of the United States and California via the Panama Canal. In the late 1920s three brand new sister ships were added to her fleet. These nearly identical two-funneled liners were the California, the Virginia and the Pennsylvania. Each of these ships provided drive-on service to their passengers, which meant that travelers could arrive and leave with their own cars. Departing from New York City, Havana, Cuba, was the first port of call. The New York to San Francisco service via the Panama Canal was discontinued in 1937. rare. We could find no other examples at auction. Passenger Ships 47.
