JACK RIVOLTA (1890-?)

IN WINTER, TOO, NEW YORK STATE. Circa 1936.

35x22 inches, 89x55 3/4 cm. Federal Art Project, New York.
Condition B+ / B: repaired tears at edges, some into central image; restoration along repaired tears, creases and abrasions in image. Silkscreen.

This is one of several WPA-sponsored posters by Rivolta promoting winter activities in the Empire State, for the NYC Poster Division. Another expert Art Deco design by the artist advertised the Olympic bobsled run at Lake Placid. The playful typography and effective use of only two colors in this charming image is reminiscent of Dorothy Waugh's National Parks poster from the earlier 1930s.
