  • Notes: In full: "Your letter of the 12th instant has been received. Genl Stockly has denied the statement you have made in the most positive terms. If therefore you have it in your power to establish the fact of his being the author of the scurrilous and slanderous publication you showed me and 'stated that he was the author,' it will be necessary for you to do so."
