Color etching and engraving, 1752. 208x152 mm; 8¼x6 inches, small margins. A superb, richly-inked impression of this extremely scarce print with strong colors.

D'Agoty (1716-1785) was born in Marseille, and became a student of the painter and engraver Jacob Christoph Le Blon (1667-1741), with whom he became a rival for title of the invention of a method of an early color printing method based on etching and mezzotint engraving. He later exploited this process with his four sons and is perhaps best known for his partnership with the physician and anatomist Guichard Joseph Duverney to produce anatomical albums using this color printing technique.
