JAMES A. M. WHISTLER Limehouse.

JAMES A. M. WHISTLER
Limehouse.

Etching and drypoint on cream wove paper, 1859. 126x200 mm; 5x7 7/8 inches, small margins. Third state (of 3). A superb, richly-inked impression, with the finest lines printing clearly and with burr on the horizontal shading on the inside stern of the barge lower center.

Whistler stayed in a guest room in Wapping, on the Thames, from August to October 1859, where he worked on some of the plates for 'The Thames Set.' This is a view of Broadway Wharf, with the Old Harbour Master's House on the right and West India Docks in the distance. Kennedy 40.
