For half a century, the brilliant and charming Jean Cocteau was one of the pillars of the Parisian artistic scene. He was an artist, painter, writer and movie director. Wizard of the Boeuf sur le Toit and friend of the cubists and surrealists, he was everywhere something artistically new and important was taking place. In 1911 he designed two posters for the Ballets Russes, one featuring Nijinksy and the other, Tamara Karasavina. The image for the later he re-used in 1939 to advertise an exhibition about the famous ballet troupe.
