Pyrex, a glass strong enough to cook in, was introduced to the public in 1915. Prior to the First World War, glass laboratory equipment largely came from Germany. The war put an end to German exports and Corning, the parent company of Pyrex, stepped in to supply their products to laboratories around the world. Only two posters are known to have been designed by Garcia, and both show his adherence to the popular Art Deco design tenets of his day. Here, employing dynamic typography, he shows an amorphous orange shape representing fiery melting glass, within which are pieces of finished laboratory equipment. It is an elegant and efficient way to advertise a difficult concept; that this ideal glass is sturdy enough to be sterilized in boiling water.
