  • Notes: Generally considered the first published edition in English, following a privately printed 1785 edition and a 1786 French edition. This copy was owned and signed by George Washington Craik (1774-1808), the son of George Washington''s personal physician. Craik''s education had been underwritten by Washington, and he became one of Washington''s secretaries in 1796. Howes J78; Sabin 35896; Verner 1787.
