JES WILHELM SCHLAIKJER IN THE FACE OF OBSTACLES--COURAGE. INFANTRY. 1943

Schlaikjer's intense depiction of three soldiers in a machine gun nest in the heat of a battle was used on two different posters. The other version doesn't have the top and bottom text banners and simply bears the inscription "Your METAL is their MIGHT!". Schlaikjer studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and proceeded to spend most of his artistic life working for the military. After the war he became the offical art consultant for the U.S. War Department. Posters for Victory p. 64 (var).
