JIM DINE The Heart on a Rock.

JIM DINE
The Heart on a Rock.

Bronze, 1983. 470x415x255 mm; 18 1/2x16 3/8x10 inches. Incised with the artist's signature, date, numbered 3/6, and inscribed "Walla Walla" on the underside.

Dine (born 1935) met Mark Anderson, the director of the Walla Walla Foundry in 1982. After visiting Walla Walla, Washington, Dine decided to live and work in the area, close to the foundry, which would produce most of his sculpture through the 1980s. Among the first sculptures he cast in Walla Walla was Study for Two Venuses in 1983. After gaining more experience in bronze sculpture, Dine revisited older themes in bronze, as in his Heart works.
