JOHANN VAN DE MIJNNESTEN, FORMERLY MASTER I.A.M. OF ZWOLLE (FOLLOWER OF)

(North Netherlands active circa 1470-95)
The Agony in the Garden.

Pen and black ink and gouache, heightened with gold on vellum. 406x306 mm; 16x12 1/8 inches.

The current drawing is a nearly identical sized copy after Zwolle's engraving (Lehrs VII, p. 182, 3). The engraving itself is extremely rare. Lehrs, in his catalogue of early Dutch and Flemish engravings, lists only 9 impressions. The only impression listed in the United States is at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
