Octavo, lacking the first signature [8 leaves, including the title page]; final leaf with woodcut printer's device; missing leaves supplied in 18th century pen facsimile; ex libris Norfolk bibliographer and antiquary Joseph Ames (1689-1759) with his engraved armorial bookplate signed and dated 1740 mounted opposite the facsimile title page; inscribed "Bibliotecae Ivesianae, 1772" at head of title; presentation inscription in the hand of John Ives (1751-1776) dated May 8, 1772 on front free endleaf noting that the book was given to Ives by book collector John White (d. 1787) of Newgate Street whose library was sold in June of 1805; engraved armorial bookplate of Edward Thomas, A.M. FRAS, pasted inside front board; in Joseph Ames's circa 1740 binding with his name stamped in blind on front board (rebacked); rare at auction; 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 in.

English antiquary, book collector and scholar of English printing, Joseph Ames is remembered for his personal collection and his book, Typographical Antiquities, first published in 1749. The work was later edited by William Herbert and Thomas Frognall Dibdin. Ames's collection was sold at auction in 1760.
