John Flamsteed (1646-1719)

Large folio, volume three only of three; illustrated with 2 full-page plates; bound in full contemporary calf, rebacked (edge wear, corners repaired; contents good); 15 3/4 x 10 in.

Flamsteed's British star catalogue was left unfinished at his death in 1719. His work was continued posthumously by Joseph Crosthwait and Abraham Sharp. The dedication is signed by Margaret Cooke Flamsteed (c. 1670-1730), his surviving widow and the first British woman known to be involved in the study of astronomy. She oversaw the publication of the present work and the Atlas Coelestis, which came out in 1729.
