JOHN MARIN Broad Street.

JOHN MARIN
Broad Street.

Etching on cream wove paper, 1914. 214x168 mm; 8 1/2x5 7/8 inches, wide (full ?) margins. Signed and titled in pencil, lower margin. A superb impression of this extremely scarce print.

Stieglitz published 5 of Marin's renowned New York etchings in 1913. For 1914, however, Zigrosser lists only 3 etchings by Marin, all of which represent St. Paul's at Broadway. The current work also depicts a street scene from lower Manhattan, several blocks from St. Paul's at Broadway.

We have found only one other impression at auction in the past 30 years; sold at Swann Auction Galleries, November 6, 2003, sale 1983, lot 617. Not in Zigrosser.
