Seven First Editions in Jackets.

Seven first editions by four authors, all quarto; the last title inscribed by the author and signed by the illustrator; various colors of cloth, most with pictorial labels affixed to the front boards, illustrated endpapers; in their corresponding dust jackets, including:

1) John R. Neill's The Scalawagons of Oz. Chicago: The Reilly & Lee, Co., 1941. First printing; bound in red cloth with title hyphenated on spine; in the unclipped dust jacket with titles listed through the misspelled Scallywagons of Oz (spine panel sunned, sections of loss at spine ends, small tears, creasing, toning and soiling to verso, pencil annotations to lower flap; tiny chips to cover label, two small stains to spine); 9 x 6 ½ in.

2) Another copy of Scalawagons of Oz. Later printing, ca. 1949; illustrated and bound as above, but with the title printed diagonally and non-hyphenated on spine; in a later dust jacket, listing titles through Shaggy Man of Oz (price clipped, spine panel sunned, minor creasing and edge wear, tape reinforcement to top edge at verso; sticker to ownership leaf, occasional crayon coloring, concentrated at maps; short tear to lower edge of front fly leaf); 9 x 6 ½ in.

3) Jack Snow's The Magical Mimics in Oz. Chicago: The Reilly & Lee, Co., 1946. First printing; illustrated by Frank Kramer; bound in binding A: gray cloth with the cover label in full color; dust jacket with Hansen essay on rear flap (clipped, new price stamped on front flap, edge wear, small losses, tape repairs and staining to verso; occasional marginal stains, short tear to lower margin of one page, few corner creases; extremities lightly bumped, small stains to lower board); 9 x 6 ½ in.

4) Another copy of Magical Mimics. Later printing, ca. mid-1950s; illustrated and bound as above, but printed on thinner, light grayish paper with the block measuring 7/8 in.; with the first state dust jacket (clipped, new price stamped on each flap, areas of loss to spine and rear panel at upper edge, few short tears, toning; one or two thumbmarks; spine ends lightly bumped); 9 x 6 ½ in.

5) Snow's The Shaggy Man of Oz. Chicago: The Reilly & Lee, Co., 1949. First printing; illustrated by Kramer; bound in gray cloth; in the unclipped dust jacket (minor edge wear and rubbing; pencil ownership inscription, occasional thumbing; spine gently sunned, faint scratches to lower board, boards slightly bowed, tiny stains); 9 x 6 ½ in.

6) Rachel Cosgrove Payes's Hidden Valley of Oz. Chicago: The Reilly & Lee, Co., 1951. First printing; illustrated by Dirk Gringhuis; bound in binding A: blue cloth with full-color cover label; with the dust jacket (price clipped, light edge wear, rubbing at folds; pencil ownership inscription, occasional thumbing; very pale offsetting to endpapers, child's makeshift library check-out card in pocket adhered to lower pastedown); 8 ¾ x 6 ½ in.

7) Eloise Jarvis McGraw & Lauren McGraw Wagner's Merry Go Round in Oz. Chicago: The Reilly & Lee, Co., 1963. First printing; signed and inscribed by Eloise Jarvis McGraw, "For Irene Fisher—with my very best wishes" and dated 1980 in red ink on the half-title, and further signed by the illustrator opposite title in blue ink; illustrated by Dick Martin; bound in binding A: white cloth, spine hand-lettered; with the dust jacket, which was only issued for binding A copies (price clipped, minor soiling, spotting at folds and verso; soiling at board edges, spotting to upper block edge); 9 1/8 x 6 ½ in.
