A collection of the best stories from the famous avant-garde journal which became the mouthpiece of the era, published at the end of its first year. Boyle had a brief affair with Sage in the summer of 1928. He took the only copy of her still unpublished autobiographical novel The Book of Cincinnati and sent it to a Chicago publisher friend of his, who promptly lost it. Jolas, then writing a literary column for the Paris edition of the Chicago Tribune, sought out Boyle''s contributions for transition.
