Lithograph on Serir Whitewove paper, 1942. 337x267 mm; 13 1/4x10 1/2 inches, full margins. Signed, dated, titled and numbered 9/30 in pencil, lower margin. From Graphic Tectonics. A very good impression of this scarce print. We have not found an impression at auction in the past twenty years.
Graphic Tectonics were made after a series of drawings that Albers made while teaching at Harvard University's Graphic Design School in 1941. They were intended to challenge perceived notions of drawing with their precision and uniformity. Monte Alban refers to the prehistoric site in Oaxaca which Albers visited in 1935 and where his interest in geometric forms found many early examples. Danilowitz 107.
