Provenance: acquired directly from the artist, private collection, New York (1971); thence by descent, private collection.

The original owner was a model and close personal friend of Joseph Delaney's. She purchased it on Jan. 21, 1971 for her husband's 47th birthday.

The Waldorf Cafeteria was a restaurant chain which had several locations in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens. The Village location on 6th Avenue was a popular artist hangout.
