(JUDAICA.) Down with Bossism. The Election of Mark H. Webb to the Common Council . . . Means a Step Towards Freedom.

(JUDAICA.) Down with Bossism. The Election of Mark H. Webb to the Common Council . . . Means a Step Towards Freedom. Leaflet illustrated with portrait, 8 x 12 inches; quite worn but tastefully restored; inscription on verso. [Boston, circa 1910?]

  • Notes: Mark H. Webb (1885-1934) was born in England to Poland-born Jews, and came to Boston as a boy. He campaigned as a reformer for the Boston Common Council, possibly as a Socialist, as suggested by his slogan and the rueful later inscription on verso: "Just a reminder of days gone by, when we were popular." The Yiddish text reads "Mark H. Webb, Jewish Candidate for Common Council." Webb was a contractor for the telephone company in 1910, was practicing law in Boston in 1920, and by 1930 had moved to Birmingham, AL.
