  • Notes: Isaac Franks (1759-1822) was a member of a prominent Pennsylvania Jewish family. As a young man he served as one of General Washington's aides-de-camp during the Revolution. During Washington's presidency, he rented a Germantown house owned by Franks for two extended visits in 1793 and 1794. It still stands today as the oldest surviving presidential residence.
This deed is for 400 acres in central Pennsylvania's Northumberland County. In addition to the Franks signature, it is also signed by William Bradford (1755-1795), the second United States Attorney General, and prominent physician James Mease (1771-1846). The deed was made out to Benjamin Rush (1746-1813), the most important physician of his day, who invested heavily in Northumberland County land.
