(JUDAICA.) Kalisch, Isidor. Töne des Morgenlandes.

(JUDAICA.) Kalisch, Isidor. Töne des Morgenlandes. [2], 80, [2] pages. Small 8vo, contemporary 1/4 calf, moderate wear; internally clean. Detroit, MI, 1865

  • Notes: An unusual volume of poetry in German by a Prussian-born Detroit rabbi. It is a very early work of midwestern Judaica, and possibly the first book of poetry published by a Jewish man in America--Kalisch was preceded by a handful of Jewish women such as Penina Moise and Rebecca Hyneman. None sold at auction since a Swann sale, 5 May 1977, lot 200.
