JULES CHERET PALAIS DE GLACE. [Courier Francais supplement, January 20.] 1894.

22 1/4x15 1/2 inches. Chaix, Paris.
Condition B+: minor paper loss in margins; discoloration along margins and horizontal fold. Paper.
Jules Roques, the owner of the magazine Le Courier Français, was among the most fervent believers in Cheret's work. At one point, he rented the entire curtain of the Theatre des Ambassadeurs, one of the biggest music halls in Paris, and covered it from top to bottom with Cheret's posters, with the name of his publication across the top. Even more ambitiously, he would regularly publish supplements to his magazine which were reductions of posters, the majority of which were designs by Cheret. Although much smaller than the originals, they are of equal quality as they were printed by Chaix under the personal direction of Cheret. Cheret designed an entire gallery of posters for the Palais de Glace (a popular skating rink on the Champs Elysees), of which three were reprinted in Le Courier Francais. Broido 367.
