JULES CHERET QUINQUINA DUBONNET. [Courier Francais supplement, January 16.] 1895.
22 1/2x16 inches. Chaix, Paris.
Condition B+: horizontal fold; discoloration in margins. Paper.
Dubonnet was originally a wine and spirit wholesale company, that began marketing their own brand of quinine wine in 1880. Cheret designed two posters for the company, each one depicting a woman drinking with a cat at her side. The cat was Dubonnet's emblem, and is still seen on the company's labels today. Cheret's two Dubonnet posters both appeared as supplements to Le Courier Francais. In the 1930s Dubonnet benefited from more inspired advertising creativity, as A. M. Cassandre's posters for them helped drive them to the top of the market! Broido 871. Broido 871.
