JULIEN LACAZE (1886-1971)

VITTEL (VOSGES) / L'ERMITAGE ET SON GOLF CLUB. Circa 1930.

39½x24½ inches, 100¼x62¼ cm. Art & Publicite, Paris.
Condition A-: minor repaired tears at edges; minor creases and abrasions in margins and image; restoration along fold at upper right; horizontal folds.

Lacaze was a landscape painter who began designing posters for the French Railway in 1910. His well-composed images are consistently colorful and detailed. Renowned for his travel posters, they are primarily landscapes and often include local architectural or structural highlights, and rarely feature people. Vittel was a spa resort most often promoted for its waters and natural beauty, but here Lacaze promotes the local golf course and the grand hotel.
