KELLY Edward. Edwd. Kelly, a Magician in the Act of invoking the Spirit of a Desceased Person. Engraved plate showing Kelly invoking a spirit in a graveyard, engraved by Ames after Sibly, extracted from a work on astrology and alchemy by Sibly, on an 8vo sheet; creases where folded, several chips along right edge, margins trimmed to image and just beneath the caption. London, circa 1806.

  • Notes: Edward Kelly (1555-1595) was a noted alchemist and magician during the 16th century. He is closely associated with John Dee, whose "True and Faithful Relation" recounts his experiences with ghosts and necromancy. Most later commentators consider Kelly to have been a charlatan.
