  • Notes: From the Estate of Allen Oxenburg. Oxenburg co-founded the American Opera Society in New York, which gave American premiers to several important operas and singers. The first performance was given in a Fifth Avenue mansion, but the highly influential institution eventually found a home at Carnegie Hall. After its disbanding, Oxenburg went on to work as a photographer dealer and avid collector.
