Moschopolis [i. e., Voskopoje, Albania]: Gregorios Hieromonachos, 1744

  • Notes: Second edition of a manual of letter-writing originally published in 1625. Korydalleus (circa 1570-1646) was an influential neo-Aristotelian philosopher, educator, and Orthodox cleric who taught at Venice, Zante, Athens, and Constantinople. His works circulated primarily in manuscript; few appeared in print. This edition is a scarce production of the Greek press at Moschopolis, the only one of the period in the Balkans, which printed over 20 predominantly religious works from 1731 to 1769. Moschopolis was an important 18th-century center of Greek culture until its decline after repeated pillaging from 1769 onward. Legrand (18th century) 317; Peyfuss, Die Druckerei von Moschopolis 15. OCLC records only the Houghton Library copy, but Peyfuss locates 10 more in European collections and 2 in Egypt.
