  • Condition: Laura Gilpin's "Navaho Portrait, from the Enduring Navaho" (1963; printed circa 1970) is in nearly excellent condition. The print is rich and contrasty, with detail and texture throughout the densely packed image.

Upon exceedingly close inspection it is possible to find a very soft and unobtrusive crease at the lower left corner of the print, which just crosses into the image area. This not noticeable when the original overmat is closed. There are also a couple of quite discrete and minor retouching specs that can be found in the image area, but this is only noted for the purposes of a detailed report. Under typical viewing conditions the print appears without flaw.

The mount is very slightly soiled on verso, and remnants of a prior hinge can be seen at the top edge of mount recto and verso. The edges of mount verso also show superficial skinning. The original overmat also shows just trace soiling, but this is not distracting. With Gilpin's signature and negative date in pencil on the overmat, and her credit label with the typed title and negative date on mount verso.
