Laure Albin-Guillot, figured prominently in Parisian photographic circles of the 1920s-1940s. She is noted for her microphotographs and especially for her beautiful nudes, was closely associated with the Ecole de Paris, and called by Peter Pollack and Emmanuel Sougez the muse of portraiture and decorative fantasies. She was an ardent supporter of women in the arts and was appointed president of the "Union féminine des carrières libérales et commerciales," and a governor of the Direction des Beaux-Arts. She exhibited widely and organized the exhibition "Femmes artistes d'Europe."

  • Condition: Laure Albin-Guillot's portfolio "La Déesse Cypris" (1946) is in very fine condition. The overall presentation is clean and neat and internally evidences minimal handling and wear. Illustrated with 12 photogravures of Albuin-Guillot's nude studies, the image areas are rich and textural, with no apparent flaw, and the sheets clean and neat.

The photogravure plates evidence the usual offsetting to the text opposite the plates.

The paper wrappers are lightly toned with faint specs of foxing from contact with the slipcase boards, yet the spine remains unaffected. The first (blank) preliminary page also evidences a few very faint specs of foxing, but this is minor. The slipcase shows trace soiling and just trace rubs at the tips of the corners, but has retained its integrity.
